Technical Details

The material behind a climbing hold shapes more than its appearance. It determines how it feels in your hand, how it wears over time, how easy it is to handle, and ultimately how long it will perform on the wall.

At Thrill Seeker Holds, we carefully select the right material for every product. Whether it's premium polyurethane, classic polyester, or our latest generation of thermoformed ABS macros, each material has its own strengths and purpose. Rather than believing in a one-material-fits-all approach, we choose the solution that delivers the best performance for the intended application.

Materials & Sustainability

Polyurethane (PU)

Polyurethane is the global benchmark for modern climbing holds. Thanks to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, it enables the production of large, complex and highly detailed shapes while remaining lightweight and durable. It's no surprise that the majority of premium climbing hold manufacturers worldwide rely on polyurethane.

However, not all polyurethane is created equal. The quality of the raw material has a significant impact on durability, texture, and long-term performance. Lower-grade formulations may wear quickly and lose their original feel, while premium polyurethane maintains its friction and structural integrity for years.

That's why Thrill Seeker Holds exclusively uses Dannomond polyurethane by Composite X, which is perhaps the highest quality PU available on the market today. The result is climbing holds that combine outstanding durability, precise surface detail, low weight, and a skin-friendly texture designed for intensive commercial use.

Polyester (PE)

Polyester remains a favourite among many European climbing gyms, and for good reason. Its naturally sandy surface delivers exceptional friction and a climbing sensation that closely resembles real rock. Even after years of use, PE holds retain their distinctive texture, making them a proven choice for long-lasting routes.

Another advantage of polyester is its affordability. Combined with excellent UV resistance and slower colour fading, it makes an ideal material for outdoor climbing walls.

Like every material, polyester has its limitations. It is considerably heavier than polyurethane and more brittle, making it less suitable for producing large or highly complex shapes. Despite these characteristics, it continues to be a trusted material for countless climbing facilities.

Our polyester collection focuses on affordable, confidence-inspiring holds with comfortable shapes that are ideal for beginner routes, training walls, and commercial gyms looking for excellent value.

Vacuum Thermoformed macros (VTF)

Innovation never stands still. Our latest generation of macros is manufactured from thermoformed plastic (VTF) using vacuum thermoforming technology.

The result is a lightweight, hollow construction that offers outstanding performance while making installation significantly easier for route setters. Compared to traditional fiberglass macros, thermoformed ABS reduces weight without compromising strength or durability.

Key benefits include:

  • Ultra-lightweight construction for safer and easier handling.

  • Exceptional impact resistance with excellent flexibility for demanding commercial environments.

  • Skin-friendly texture that delivers reliable friction while remaining gentle during long climbing sessions.

  • Easy maintenance thanks to smooth, sealed, non-porous surfaces that brush clean with minimal effort.

  • Outstanding durability built to withstand heavy daily use.

Designed with sustainability in mind

Performance and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Our VTF macros are manufactured using recyclable thermoplastic, allowing the material to be melted down and reshaped at the end of its life. We also incorporate recycled post-industrial and post-consumer plastics into production, reducing the demand for virgin raw materials while maintaining the grip, durability and surface quality climbers expect.

Unlike traditional composite manufacturing, the thermoforming process does not produce toxic emissions, creating a cleaner production environment for both our production team and our planet.

Built to Last

The most sustainable climbing hold is often the one that doesn't need replacing.

Whether produced in premium polyurethane, polyester, or VTF macros, every Thrill Seeker product is designed for years of intensive use. By focusing on durability, long-lasting textures, and high-quality materials, we help climbing gyms reduce waste, extend product life, and get the maximum value from every hold on the wall.

Because great climbing starts with great materials—and great materials should last.
